Buy the Orchards Dress sewing pattern from Vivian Shao Chen. The Orchards Dress is a romantic and casual sleeveless summer dress. The gathers at the front and back neckline provide bust shaping and comfortable ease. The neckline is finished with a neat rounded collar. The collar and button placket provide a bit of structure to the loose-fitting nature of the dress.

View A is a longer tiered dress. View B is a short dress with a fuller skirt. Both views have in-seam pockets. Choose a plain-woven cotton for a picnic dress, or linen for a more rustic look.

Suggested fabrics: The Orchards Dress pattern is designed for lightweight woven fabrics (3-5 oz/yd²). You may use any fibre, keeping in mind that each will produce different draping effects.

Fabric requirements: Note you may need more yardage if you are working with graphic prints and wish to pattern match.

View A: 60″ (152 cm) wide fabric: 3 - 3.5 yd (2.7 - 3.2 m) // 45″ (114 cm) wide fabric*: 4 - 4.5 yd (3.7 - 4.1 m).

View B: 60″ (152 cm) wide fabric: 2.5 - 3 yd (2.3 - 2.7 m) // 45″ (114 cm) wide fabric*: 3.5 - 4 yd (3.2 - 3.7 m).

* Note if using 45" (114 cm) wide fabric, piecing will be required for the View A bottom tier for all sizes, and for the View B skirt for sizes 12-22.

Sizing: US 00 – 22 (approx. UK 6 – 22, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size chart and finished garment measurements.

The pattern is designed for a B cup bust, meaning there is a 2" difference between the high bust and full bust. If your cup size is larger than B, you may need to do a full bust adjustment. A bust apex point is included on the front bodice pattern piece.

Notions: 0.5 yd (0.46 m) of interfacing for button plackets and collar (choose a weight that is slightly lighter than your fabric); four 3/8″-1/2″ (10-12.7 mm) buttons.
